Now you will learn how to create and use your own browser. To do this, you must execute the following steps (don't worry, it will take you only a few minutes):
1. Use the "New Browser Document" command of the File menu in order to create a browser document.
2. Resize the new "Untitled-x" window in such a way that you can conveniently work with it and still read the present text (it should fill the upper part of the screen above this document). Note that, except for Point 10, the operations described below are only possible if the active window is the one displaying your browser.
3. Select the rectangle in the palette, and click in the window where you want to create the first node. Note that as long as you don't release the mouse, you can move the node. In the dialog that appears then, enter the name "Test: Find/Print across".
4. Create a second node in the same way (don't forget to click on the rectangle in the palette) with the name "New Browser Document". Before you dismiss the dialog, associate the document "Search.Doc.1" (located in the "Test.Your.Table" folder, which is, itself, located in the "Tutorial" folder) with the node by clicking on the "Add" button.
Note : You can modify the contents of a node by selecting it and choosing the Get Node Info command from the Menu. A short-cut for this command is option-double-click. You can also apply different shadings and colors to your nodes with the Node menu.
5. Create a third node. Assign it the name "Table and Node menus" and associate it with the documents "Search.Doc.2" and "Search.Doc.3"
6. Create a fourth node with the name "Browser menu" and associate it with the document "Search.Doc.4".
7. Connect the node named "Test: Find/Print across" with each of the three other nodes. To do this, the process is the following : you select the line in the palette, click on the father node (i.e. "Test: Find/Print across"), drag the mouse to the son node, and release the mouse. A line will appear between the connected nodes.
8. At this stage, with the exception of the window title, your table of contents should look like the one in this figure. Follow the link, correct any eventual mistakes and continue with point 9 below. Note that you can delete nodes from your table of contents with the "Remove" command of the Table menu.
9. Use now the "Save" command of the File menu and save your new browser document under the name "My Table" in the "Test.Your.Table" folder.
10. Congratulations, you just created your first WEBSs document. Check to see if WEBSs accepts your new browser by controlling if it appears in the "Activate" submenu of the Browser menu, but do not make it the active browser. "Demo.Table" must remain the active browser throughout this tutorial.
11. Try a few commands on your browser by selecting one or several nodes and using the "Contract", "Expand", "Open Documents", "Close Documents", "Get Node Info" commands from the Table menu. Note the following shortcuts :
command-double-click = Contract/Expand
double-click = Open Documents
control-double-click = Close Documents
option-double-click = Get Node Info
12. Now you must use "My.Table" in order to search for the string "browser" within the four "Search.Doc.1, 2, 3 and 4" documents. Use Balloon Help on the "Find across" command of the Table menu to learn how to do it. After practicing this, continue with point 13 below.
(13). If you are connected to a printer, you can use the "Print Selected" command of the File menu in order to print successively each of the four documents above. Use Balloon Help to learn more about it and possibly try it. If formatting problems occur, verify the Page Setup options of your documents.
14. Once you are finished, use the "Next Node" command of the Browser menu to continue this tutorial with document "Fith".
